Hong Kong SAR Establishment Day
Thursday this week was a public holiday because it was HKSAR Establishment Day, the 24th anniversary of the handover of Hong Kong from UK to China. The picture shows part of the procession of fishing boats that goes into Victoria Harbour every year on this day. Possibly more momentously it was also the 100th anniversary of the CCP. Notable for me was the fact that I sat on my last disciplinary committee, the move to online examinations has resulted in a huge increase in cheating cases. On this occasion the students posted about their cheating on Instagram, which seems like a strange thing to do if you know cheating is wrong. We also saw the results of the latest annual grant round published with great results from some groups – especially I think the ecologists.
