Town hall meetings
Teaching has now ended and so this is the time when it is convenient for me to have the town hall meetings with each department. These are agenda-free meetings where the Faculty Secretary and I respond to any questions that come up from the staff in the department. One thing that has always interested me is how the concerns and cultures of the departments are so different. I find them very useful occasions and we end up with a lot of notes about issues and worries that can be acted upon later. I also held a similar style of meeting with the tenure track staff, this is also fascinating as the younger staff feel much freer to talk in front of their peers than they do when the senior staff of the department are present. I feel that both these occasions are good innovations and help communication around the Faculty.
