HKSAR Establishment Day
Today is a public holiday – the 23rd anniversary of the hand-over of Hong Kong to China by the UK. It also happens to be the day after the new National Security Law came into force. I have been asked many times about how this law will affect the Faculty. The honest answer is how can one know? It will depend how it is used, if it is used rarely only for clear cases then I think things will settle down. If it is used frequently and to prosecute relatively trivial matters then I think there will be a lot more consequence. The boats in the picture are gathering to process through Victoria Harbour, the signs read ‘Congratulate the Return of Hong Kong, Welcome the National Security Law’.
